O.K., O.K., I know, I have not been around for awhile... I was in Washington D.C. a couple of weeks ago, for a little vacation. I even took my computer with me, thinking that I would blog a little each day about what we saw. Obviously, that didn't happen. I forgot the usb cord to put my pics in the computer... and it just wouldn't have been the same without the photos. So let me catch you up....
DH was in Emmetsburg MD. at the National Fire Academy for 2 weeks taking an arson investigation class.....when he was done, we met in D.C. But first, I was able to meet up with my sweet friend Hope. We went to a wonderful lunch at one of her favorite Mexican restaurants, and then to get some cupcakes. We then went back to the Woodley Park Guest House, where I was staying............for some more conversation, and the yummy cupcakes, of course!
It wasn't nearly enough girly time, but I am looking forward to seeing her soon at Silver Bella.
On that first evening, we took the metro, to the Mall, and saw some of the beautiful sights all lit up. Unfortunately, ny little camera wasn't the best at taking pic at night, but a few of the quotes around the WWII memorial came out pretty good.
They had a computer, where you could look up a person who was in the war....I found my Grandmother's brother who died in the Pacific .
We also saw the Vietnam Memorial, which was beautiful, but it was too dark for photos. Also, on our evening walk, we saw the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Korean War Memorial. This memorial had larger than lifesize figures set in a "rice paddy"...In the dark, and with the light flooding over the figures, this was haunting, and beautiful.
View of the Washington Memorial, from the Jefferson Memorial......
Arlington Cemetary....
Changing of the guard, at the Tomb of the unknown Soldier.
The White House. (it was a lot smaller in person, than I thought it was.)
Joe, on the Metro....
Of course, we also went to The Smithsonian Natural History Museum, the Air and Space Museum, and The Smithsonian Zoo.....
The panda's were adorable.....
We also went to the Holocaust Museum, and had a private tour of the Capitol.
I have to also mention the lovely neighborhood where we stayed. It was called the Adams Morgan area, and we stayed at the lovely Woodley Park Guest House.
This was the first time that DH and I had stayed at this type of small Inn.
It was lovely, and very fun to meet different people at breakfast each day, from all over the world.
All in all, it was a nice vacation...very exhausting however, and I think my next vacation will be near a beach!!
